Jazz and Blues

On Friday nights, at 9 o’clock, we have the regular jazz trio with Claus Bass (piano), Brian Masters (banjo) and Al Wynette (trumpet), who play classic standards from the 20’s and 30’s.
On Saturdays, we have different bands depending on the week in the month:
the 1st Saturday features John Chalice (piano), John Gourd (guitar), Tony Rowlett (harmonica) and others playing jazz-orientated blues.
the 2nd Saturday has the Holly Roberts piano trio playing jazz and ragtime, mainly pre-2nd World War.
the 3rd Saturday has a larger band led by Ches Chesterman (trumpet) with guest reed players, such as Wally Fawkes, who play in traditional styles including New Orleans and Chicago.
the 4th Saturday has an amalgam of blues, boogie and more modern compositions including cockney songs from this area played by Jaime Rowan (piano) and vocalist Sally.
the 5th Saturday, when it rarely falls, has a guest band which has included the popular Mike Nash (trombone) and his quartet and the Frog Island Jazz Band.
On Sundays, we have pub jazz piano played by HollyRoberts as background music from about 3 o’clock till 6 o’clock, plus able sit-in pianists, who often appear until about 8 o’clock.
